Iroquois County is a county in Illinois, United States, about 90 miles south of downtown Chicago along the Indiana border. It had a population of 27,077 at the 2020 census, an estimated 26,150 by 2025, and covers 1,117 square miles (2,893 km2) of land centred near 40°44′N 87°49′W.<\/p>\n

Watseka is the county seat; its postal code is 60970. The county holds 2 cities, 19 incorporated villages and a handful of smaller unincorporated communities across 26 townships, and it runs on Central Time. Its FIPS code is 17075.<\/p>\n

Two pairs confuse newcomers. The village of Iroquois sits in Concord Township, not Iroquois Township — Iroquois Township instead shares Crescent City with neighbouring Crescent Township. And Watseka itself straddles two townships: its south half lies in Belmont Township, its north half in Middleport Township, which was briefly renamed Watseka Township in 1863 before reverting to Middleport. Beyond the 27 places above, the county also has a scatter of former post-office crossroads — Alonzo, Fountain Creek, Hooper, La Hogue and Effner among them — too small and undocumented today to carry a population or ZIP of their own.<\/p>\n
