Oglethorpe County is a county in Georgia, United States, on the Piedmont plateau between Athens and the Savannah River. It had a population of 14,825 at the 2020 census and covers 439 square miles (1,140 km2) of land centred near 33\u00b053\u2032N 83\u00b005\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Lexington is the county seat, and its postal code is 30648. The county has three cities, one town and several unincorporated communities, no civil townships (Georgia does not use the township system), and it sits in the Eastern time zone.<\/p>\n

Smithonia, a historic plantation community in the county’s north end built by cotton magnate James Monroe Smith, is well known locally but is not a Census Bureau-recognized place, so it is omitted from the table above.
