It is in the North Texas area.
As of the census in 2020, there were 12,887 people living there.
Vernon is the county town.[2] The county was made in 1858, and in 1881, it was put together.
Wilbarger is named after two early settlers, Josiah Pugh Wilbarger and Mathias Wilbarger.
The county has a total area of 978 square miles (2,530 km2), of which 971 square miles (2,510 km2) are land and 7.0 square miles (18 km2) (0.7%) are water.
