Washington County is part of the Tulsa-Muskogee-Bartlesville, OK combined statistical area, as is the Bartlesville, OK micropolitan statistical area.

It is located on the Kansas border.

The county has a total area of 424 square miles (1,100 km2), of which 415 square miles (1,070 km2) is land and 8.8 square miles (23 km2) (2.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.

It is Oklahoma’s second-smallest county in terms of land area and total area.

It is located in the physiographic region of the Eastern Lowlands and is drained by the Caney River. Copan Lake, Silver Lake, and Bar-Dew Lake are among the lakes and reservoirs.
