Elkhorn is the county seat.

The county was formed in 1839 from parts of Wisconsin Territory that were made in 1836.

It’s named after Reuben H. Walworth.

Walworth County is part of the Milwaukee-Racine-Waukesha, WI Combined Statistical Area and the Whitewater-Elkhorn, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area.

In Walworth County, you can find Lake Geneva, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Alpine Valley Resort, and the Music Theatre.

The county covers 577 square miles (1,490 km2), with 555 square miles (1,440 km2) of land and 21 square miles (54 km2) (3.7%) of water. In other words, the county is mostly land.
