Wabaunsee County (standard abbreviation: WB) is a county in Kansas, United States.

Alma is the county seat. The county population was 6,877 as of the 2020 census.

Chief Waubonsie of the Potawatomi Indians inspired the county’s name.

Native Americans occupied what is now known as Kansas for millennia.

As part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the United States obtained the majority of contemporary Kansas.

The McDaniel Gang, a band of outlaws, are supposed to have been the first white settlers in the area.

The county has a total area of 800 square miles (2,100 km2), of which 794 square miles (2,060 km2) is land and 5.3 square miles (14 km2) (0.7%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
