There is no county seat in Todd County.

Instead, it is run from Winner, which is in neighboring Tripp County.Mission is its biggest city.

Even though the county was made in 1909, it is still not organized.

The county was named after John Blair Smith Todd, who was a Civil War general and a representative from Dakota Territory in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The 48 counties in the eastern part of South Dakota that are on Central Time and the 18 counties in the western part that are on Mountain Time.

Todd County is the most western county in South Dakota that stays on Central Time.

Todd County has a total area of 1,391 square miles (3,600 km2), of which 1,389 square miles (3,600 km2) are land and 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2) (0.2%) are water.
