Prince George’s County, which is sometimes called “PG County,” is a county in the U.S. state of Maryland.

It is right next to the eastern part of Washington, D.C. As of the 2020 U.S. census, there were 967,201 people living there.

This made it the second most populous county in Maryland, after nearby Montgomery County.

In the ten years before the 2020 census, the number of people had grown by almost 104,000. Upper Marlboro is the county seat.

It is the largest and second wealthiest African American-majority county in the U.S. Five of its towns were on a 2015 list of the top ten places to live.

Prince George’s County is part of the area around Washington, D.C. The county is also home to a lot of federal government buildings, like Joint Base Andrews and the headquarters of the United States Census Bureau.

The county has a total area of 499 square miles (1,290 km2), of which 483 square miles (1,250 km2) are land and 16 square miles (41 km2) (3.2%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
