Pope County is a county in Arkansas, which is a U.S. state. As of the census in 2020, there were 63,381 people living there.

Russellville is the county seat. The county was made from a part of Crawford County on November 2, 1829.

It was named for John Pope, who was the third governor of the Arkansas Territory. Pope County was the 19th county to be made (out of 75).

In the 19th century, the county’s borders changed eighteen times as new counties were made and changes were made between counties. On March 8, 1877, the current lines were set.

Pope County does not allow alcohol, so it is called a “dry” county.

Pope County is in the Russellville, Arkansas, Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes both Pope County and Yell County in its entirety.
