At the 2020 census, there will be 23,515 people living in the parish.
The parish seat is Pointe à la Hache, and Belle Chasse is the largest town.In 1807, the parish was made.
The New Orleans–Metairie metropolitan statistical area includes Plaquemines Parish.
After Hurricane Katrina hit on August 29, 2005, and again in 2011 and 2021, it took a lot of damage.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the parish has a total area of 2,567 square miles (6,650 km2), 780 square miles (2,000 km2) of which are land and 1,787 square miles (4,630 km2) of which are water, or 70%.
It has the most land area of any parish in Louisiana.
The Gulf of Mexico is on the south and southeast sides of Plaquemines Parish.
