The state of New Jersey is divided into 21 counties. Bergen County is the oldest (founded in 1683), while Union County is the newest (established in 1857).

Bergen County is the most populous, with a population of 905,116 people. Burlington County has the most land area (2,085 km2), while Hudson County has the smallest (122 km2).
