Deming is the county seat. This county is right next to Mexico.
The Deming, NM Micropolitan Statistical Area is made up of Luna County.
On March 16, 1901, the New Mexico Legislature took parts of Grant County and Doa Ana County and made them into Luna County.
It was named after Solomon Luna, a politician who pushed for the county to be on its own.
This was because Deming and Silver City, which were both in Grant County at the time, were very competitive with each other.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county is 2,965 square miles (7,680 km2) in size, and almost all of that is land.
