Kerrville is the county seat.
Joshua D. Brown named the county after James Kerr, who was also from Kentucky and was a congressman in the Republic of Texas.
The whole of Kerr County is part of the Kerrville, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 1,107 square miles (2,870 km2), of which 1,103 square miles (2,860 km2) are land and 4.0 square miles (10 km2) (0.4%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
