Henry County sits in the Osage Plains of west-central Missouri, a landscape of gently rolling prairie broken by timbered river bottoms. The Grand River, South Grand River and Big Creek drain the county, and its southeastern corner reaches into Truman Lake — the Harry S. Truman Reservoir, formed by damming the Osage River — which accounts for much of the county’s 35 square miles of water.
Henry County borders Cass County to the northwest, Johnson County to the north, Pettis County to the northeast, Benton County to the east, St. Clair County to the south, and Bates County to the west.

History
The county was organized on December 13, 1834, and first named Rives County for William Cabell Rives, a U.S. senator from Virginia. After Rives left the Democratic Party for the Whigs, the Missouri legislature renamed the county in 1841 for Patrick Henry, the Revolutionary War orator. Clinton was platted soon after as the new county seat.
