Floyd County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 35,942 people living there.
Prestonsburg is the county seat.
The county was started in 1800 and is named after Colonel John Floyd (1750–1783).
On December 13, 1799, the Kentucky General Assembly made Floyd County the state’s 40th county by passing a law.
Parts of Kentucky’s Fleming, Montgomery, and Mason counties were put together to make this county.
The US Census Bureau says that the county is 396 square miles (1,030 km2) in size, with 393 square miles (1,020 km2) of land and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2) of water, or 0.6%.
