History
Dooly County was created on May 15, 1821, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly, carved from land ceded by the Creek Nation in the early Treaty of Indian Springs land cessions. It was named for Colonel John Dooly, a Georgia militia officer killed during the Revolutionary War. Vienna was later chosen as the county seat as settlement moved south and east across the original, much larger county, which over the following decades gave up territory to help form several neighboring counties.
Getting There
U.S. Route 41 and U.S. Route 129 run through the county, and Interstate 75 skirts its eastern edge near Unadilla, giving Vienna quick access to the interstate.
