Cherokee County is a county in the United States state of Oklahoma.

The population was 47,078 at the time of the 2020 census.

Tahlequah, the county seat, is also the Cherokee Nation’s capital.

Cherokee County is part of the Tulsa-Muskogee-Bartlesville, OK combined statistical area, as is the Tahlequah, OK micropolitan statistical area.

The county has a total area of 776 square miles (2,010 km2), of which 749 square miles (1,940 km2) is land and 2.7 square miles (7.0 km2) (3.5%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
