Nashville is the county seat (and the county’s only incorporated town).

Brown County’s geography is rocky and steep, with drainage areas filled with brush, vegetation, or trees, in contrast to much of Indiana’s flat rolling hills.

Weed Patch Hill (1,058 feet/322 meters ASL) is the county’s highest point and the third-highest prominence in the state.

The county has a total area of 316.63 square miles (820.1 km2), of which 311.98 square miles (808.0 km2) (or 98.53%) is land and 4.65 square miles (12.0 km2) (or 1.47%) is water, according to the 2010 census.
