Aurora is the most populated city while Littleton is the county seat. The local Arapaho tribe gave the county its name.
The Denver-Aurora-Lakewood MSA includes Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County, “Colorado’s First County,” predates the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush.
The county covers 805 square miles (2,080 km2), of which 798 square miles (2,070 km2) are land and 7.3 square miles (19 km2) (0.9%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The county is 72 mi (116 km) east-west and 4–12 mi (6–19 km) north-south.
