Anoka County in the U.S. state of Minnesota is the fourth most populous county.

The city of Anoka is the county seat and gives the county its name.

Its name comes from the Dakota word anokatanhan, which means “on (or from) both sides,” which refers to the fact that it is on both sides of the Rum River.

Blaine, which is the thirteenth largest city in Minnesota and the eighth largest suburb of the Twin Cities, is the largest city in the county.

Anoka County is in the north of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul statistical area, which has about 3.64 million people and is the largest metro area in the state and the sixteenth-largest in the United States.

The county is 446 square miles (1,160 km2) in size, with 423 square miles (1,100 km2) of land and 23 square miles (60 km2) of water, or 5.2%.
