History
Dundy County was authorized by the Nebraska legislature in 1873 and organized as a functioning county government in 1884. It is named for Elmer Scipio Dundy, a federal judge for the District of Nebraska best known for his 1879 ruling in Standing Bear v. Crook, which held for the first time that a Native American was a “person” under U.S. law entitled to habeas corpus rights. The county has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1936.
