Dubois County sits on the transition between the flatter farmland of southwestern Indiana and the wooded ridges of the Hoosier National Forest, which reaches into the county’s southeastern townships. Dubois County was formed on December 20, 1818, from parts of Orange, Pike and Perry counties. German Catholic immigrants settled heavily around Jasper, Ferdinand and Huntingburg in the mid-1800s, and that heritage still shapes the county’s church architecture and local festivals.
