There are thirty-two counties in Ireland, and County Londonderry is one of them.
It is also known as County Derry in Irish. County Londonderry is one of the six counties in Northern Ireland.
County Derry is one of the nine counties in Ulster.
Before Ireland was split up, it was a county of the Kingdom of Ireland from 1613 to 1800 and then of the United Kingdom after the Acts of Union.
The county is on the northwest shore of Lough Neagh and covers 2,118 km2 (818 sq mi). There are about 252,231 people living there now.
As of the 2021 Census, 61.3% of the people living there were Catholic.
This is one of only four counties in Northern Ireland that has a Catholic majority since 1981. It is the purple saxifrage that is the county flower.
