County Fermanagh (pronounced fərˈmaenə, fər-MAN-ə) comes from the Irish words Fir Manach or Fear Manach, which mean “men of Manach.” is one of Ireland’s 32 counties, one of Ulster’s 9 counties, and one of Northern Ireland’s 6 counties.

The county is made up of 1,691 km2 (653 sq mi), and as of 2021, there were 63,585 people living there.

Enniskillen is the county town and has the most people and the most space.

According to the 2011 census, most of the people in Fermanagh are Catholic. This makes it one of only four counties in Northern Ireland where this is the case.

There are 1,851 km2 (715 sq mi) of land in Fermanagh, which is 13.2% of all the land in Northern Ireland.

Lakes and rivers, like Upper and Lower Lough Erne and the River Erne, cover almost a third of the county. Forests cover 42,000 hectares, or 14% of the land.

Northern Ireland’s only county that doesn’t touch Lough Neagh is this one.
