    Geography<\/h2>\n

    The district lies inland in the north-west of the Western Region, on the watershed between the Ankobra and its feeder streams. The land is undulating forest, cut by farm tracks rather than trunk roads, and rainfall is heavy for most of the year. It was carved out of the older Wassa Amenfi district and sits between Wassa Amenfi West<\/a> and Wassa Amenfi East<\/a>, with Prestea-Huni Valley<\/a> to the south.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Cocoa is the mainstay, with oil palm, plantain, cassava and cocoyam grown alongside it on the same farms. Timber and small-scale gold winning add cash income, and the pressure of alluvial mining on farmland is a standing local issue. Manso Amenfi holds the district market and the assembly offices; smaller villages trade on weekly market days and send cocoa to buying sheds along the main road.<\/p>\n

    Households combine a cocoa farm with a food plot, so the farming year runs on two clocks: weeding and spraying for cocoa, planting and harvest for plantain and cassava. Palm oil pressing, gari processing and charcoal burning are the common village trades. Cocoa money arrives in a lump after the main crop, which is why the market at Manso Amenfi is busiest between October and January.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Manso Amenfi is reached by road from Asankragwa on the Tarkwa-Enchi route, or from Wassa Akropong to the east. Coming from Takoradi, drivers head north through Tarkwa and then west. Interior roads are laterite and slow in the rains.<\/p>\n
