    Geography<\/h2>\n

    The old district lay along the lower Pra River, north-east of Sekondi-Takoradi, in low forest country with farm villages strung along the river and the Takoradi-Agona road. Daboase, on the Pra, holds the treatment works that supply piped water to the Takoradi conurbation. The successor districts border Mpohor<\/a> and Shama<\/a>, with Tarkwa Nsuaem<\/a> to the west.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Farming carries most households: oil palm, rubber, cassava, plantain and cocoa, with sand winning and fishing along the Pra. Villages sell into the markets at Daboase and Ateiku, and a share of the workforce commutes to jobs in Sekondi-Takoradi and Tarkwa. Palm oil pressing and gari processing are the common small trades.<\/p>\n

    The Pra supplies more than water for the towns: sand winning, fishing and dry-season vegetable growing all work off the river. Palm oil pressing, gari processing and charcoal burning are the usual off-farm trades. Ateiku and Daboase hold the markets that serve the river villages, and produce moves on from there to Takoradi.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Daboase is about 35 km north-east of Takoradi on the road towards Agona Junction and the Cape Coast highway. Trotros from Takoradi and Shama serve the river towns. Feeder roads off the main route are earth and slow after rain.<\/p>\n
