    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Adaklu occupies the plains immediately south of Ho, in the central Volta Region. The Adaklu range runs across the district and is visible for miles in every direction; the surrounding land is low, gently rolling and drained by seasonal streams towards the Volta. Neighbouring districts include Ho<\/a> to the north, Agotime Ziope<\/a> to the east and Central Tongu<\/a> to the south-west.<\/p>\n

    The mountain gives the district its name and its landmark. Adaklu rises abruptly from the plain to just over 580 m and can be climbed in a morning from Helekpe or Kodzobi, with the Ho plain and the Togo hills in view from the top. Rainfall is lower here than in the hill districts further north, and the vegetation is savannah woodland rather than forest. Water supply is a standing constraint, and boreholes serve many of the smaller settlements.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Farming supports most households. Maize, cassava, yam, groundnuts and rice are the common crops, with tomatoes and pepper grown for sale in Ho. Cattle, sheep and goats are kept on the open grassland, and dry-season gardening follows the streams. Waya, the district capital, holds the main market, and traders carry produce north to Ho and south towards the Volta estuary towns.<\/p>\n

    Settlement is scattered: dozens of small farming villages rather than a few large towns, which is why the list above runs long against a population under 40,000. Ho is close enough that many residents sell produce there and return the same day. Charcoal burning, palm oil pressing and dry-season vegetable gardening fill the gaps between harvests, and community-run walks up the mountain bring a small stream of visitors.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Adaklu Waya lies roughly 20 km south of Ho and is reached from the Ho\u2013Sogakope road. Vehicles for Waya, Helekpe and Have leave the Ho lorry station through the day. From Accra the usual route is the Accra\u2013Aflao road to Sogakope, then north towards Ho.<\/p>\n
