    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Bole lies in the west of the Savannah Region. The Black Volta runs along its western side and marks the international boundary with C\u00f4te d’Ivoire, while Bamboi in the south sits at the river crossing on the Kintampo road. The land is flat to gently rolling guinea savanna with shea, dawadawa and baobab trees. The district borders Sawla-Tuna-Kalba<\/a> to the north and West Gonja<\/a> to the east.<\/p>\n

    Rainfall comes in one season, roughly May to October, and the dry months are hot and dusty. The Black Volta and its tributaries carry water year round, while smaller streams dry up. Settlement follows the highway and the river, with farming hamlets spread across the bush between them.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Yam, maize, cassava, groundnut, rice and cowpea are the main crops, and cashew has spread widely as a cash crop. Cattle, sheep and goats are kept across the district, and shea nut collection is important household income. Small-scale gold mining operates in several communities near the Black Volta. Bole, Bamboi and Banda Nkwanta hold the busiest markets, and the highway keeps traders moving between Kumasi and Wa. Gonja and Vagla are widely spoken.<\/p>\n

    Bole town holds the district assembly, a hospital, senior high schools and the largest market. Cashew buying has become a significant seasonal trade, running from about February, and yam sales pick up after the harvest. Shea nut gathering and butter processing occupy women’s groups through the dry months. Charcoal burning and firewood cutting are widespread, and the river supports fishing at Bamboi.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Bole sits on the Kumasi-Wa highway, north of the Bamboi bridge over the Black Volta. Buses running between Kumasi and Wa stop at Bole and Bamboi daily. From Tamale, drivers use the Fufulso-Sawla road and turn south at Sawla.<\/p>\n
