    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Tatale-Sangule occupies the eastern edge of the Northern Region, directly on the border with Togo. Streams here drain into the Oti River basin, and the country is savanna plain with wooded valleys and low rises toward the frontier.<\/p>\n

    The district borders Zabzugu<\/a> to the west and Saboba<\/a> to the north-west. One rainy season, roughly May to October, governs the farming year.<\/p>\n

    Settlements are small and widely spaced, most of them farming villages of a few hundred residents reached by track. Tatale is the only place with district-level services. The border with Togo runs along the eastern side, and families on both sides of it share language and market days.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Yam leads the cropping pattern, with maize, sorghum, groundnuts, cowpea and valley rice beside it. Shea nuts are collected in the dry season. Farm produce moves west to Yendi and Tamale and east across the border.<\/p>\n

    Cattle, goats, sheep and guinea fowl are widely kept. Tatale holds the district market and the assembly offices, and border trade with Togo is part of ordinary weekly life. Konkomba is the main language.<\/p>\n

    Yam mounds go up from December and are harvested from July, giving the district work through most of the year. Buyers come in during harvest and load for Kumasi and Accra. Border markets give farmers a second outlet when Ghanaian prices are low.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Tatale is reached from Yendi on the road running east through Zabzugu. Yendi connects to Tamale by paved road. The eastern sections are unpaved and slow after rain, and most local movement is by motorcycle or shared minibus.<\/p>\n
