    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Mion lies east of Tamale in the Northern Region, between the metropolis and Yendi. The Tamale\u2013Yendi road crosses the district, and Sang, the capital, stands on it. Terrain is flat savanna with seasonal streams and scattered woodland.<\/p>\n

    The district borders Yendi<\/a> to the east, Karaga<\/a> to the north and the Tamale<\/a> metropolis to the west, with Gushiegu<\/a> adjoining to the north-east.<\/p>\n

    Communities are spread along the trunk road and the feeder tracks running off it to north and south. Sang has the assembly offices, a health centre and schools; the rest of the settlements on this list are farming villages, several of them small hamlets of a few hundred people.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Yam, maize, groundnuts, cowpea, sorghum and rice are the main crops, and shea nut collection adds dry-season income. Farming here benefits from the Tamale road, which lets traders reach the city market the same day.<\/p>\n

    Cattle, small ruminants and guinea fowl are kept in most compounds. Sang holds the district market and the assembly offices. Dagbani is spoken across the district, which falls within the Dagbon traditional area.<\/p>\n

    Yam mounds go up from December, grain goes in with the first rains in May, and harvest runs from September into December. Traders drive out from Tamale during harvest to buy at the farm gate, which saves farmers the cost of carting produce to the city.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Sang sits on the paved Tamale\u2013Yendi road, roughly 40 km east of Tamale. Any vehicle running between the two towns passes through, so transport is easy to find. Feeder roads lead north toward Karaga and south into the farming villages.<\/p>\n
