Ga East is a municipal district in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Its capital is
\nAbokobi. The municipality recorded 283,379 people at the 2021 census, against 147,742 in 2010; part of
\nthat increase reflects boundary changes as well as growth.<\/p>\n

It covers the northern suburbs of Accra, from Haatso and Taifa up to the villages below the

    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Ga East lies directly north of Accra. The southern half — Dome, Taifa,
    \nHaatso, Agbogba and Kwabenya — is continuous built-up suburb. Northwards the ground rises
    \ntowards the Akuapem foothills, and settlements such as Abokobi, Danfa, Adenkrebi and Otinibi sit in
    \nopen country with farmland between them.<\/p>\n

    Streams feeding the Onyasia and Dakubi drain the slopes, and flooding is a recurring problem in the
    \nlower suburbs. The municipality adjoins
    \nAdenta<\/a> to the east,
    \n    Ga West<\/a> to the west and
    \n    Accra<\/a> to the south, with the
    \nEastern Region beyond the hills to the north.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Ga East is largely a commuter municipality. Most working residents travel into Accra,
    \nand the local economy runs on retail, transport, rented housing, schools, private clinics and the
    \nbuilding trade. Dome and Taifa markets are the busiest trading points.<\/p>\n

    Farming continues in the northern villages, with maize, cassava, vegetables and poultry sold into
    \nthe city. Sand winning and small quarries operate on the hill slopes, and the pressure of housing
    \ndevelopment on farmland is a constant local issue. Stone-crushing, block-making and timber yards
    \nserve the building sites that keep opening across the municipality.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Abokobi is about 18 km north of central Accra. The usual route is the
    \nMadina–Abokobi road off the Accra–Aburi highway; from the west, the Achimota–Kwabenya
    \nroad serves Dome, Taifa and Kwabenya.<\/p>\n

    Trotros run from Achimota, Madina and Circle stations, and shared taxis link the northern villages
    \nto Abokobi. Commuter traffic on both approaches is heavy in the mornings and evenings, and the
    \nAburi road continues over the escarpment into the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n
