Ga South is a municipal district in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Its capital is
\nNgleshie Amanfro. The municipality had a population of 350,121 at the 2021 census, up from 234,191 in
\n2010.<\/p>\n

It covers the coast and farmland west of Accra, and its villages have absorbed much of the city’s
\noutward growth along the Winneba road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Ga South lies south-west of Accra, running from the Atlantic shore inland across
    \nthe Accra plain. Bortianor, Kokrobite and Faana sit on the coast, where sandy beaches and rocky points
    \nalternate. Inland the ground is low, dry grassland used for farming and quarrying.<\/p>\n

    The Densu River forms much of the eastern boundary and feeds the Weija reservoir, which supplies a
    \nlarge part of Accra’s water. The municipality borders the Central Region to the west,
    \nGa West<\/a> to the north and the
    \nbuilt-up districts of     Accra<\/a> to the
    \neast.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Farming still matters here more than in most of Greater Accra: cassava, maize,
    \npepper, okra and vegetables go to Accra’s markets, along with poultry and pigs. Coastal villages fish
    \nwith canoes and beach seines, and smoked fish is traded inland.<\/p>\n

    Quarrying and sand winning are heavy local industries on the plain, feeding Accra’s construction
    \ntrade. Kokrobite and Bortianor draw weekend visitors to the beaches, and Mallam, at the eastern edge,
    \nis a busy junction market and transport hub.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    The Winneba road (N1 west) is the spine of the municipality, running from
    \nMallam junction through Ngleshie Amanfro towards Kasoa and the Central Region. The coastal villages
    \nare reached by the Bortianor and Kokrobite branch roads south of it.<\/p>\n

    Trotros run from Kaneshie and Mallam stations. Ngleshie Amanfro is about 25 km from central
    \nAccra, though the Mallam–Kasoa stretch is often congested.<\/p>\n
