    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Upper Manya Krobo lies north of the other Krobo districts, in the eastern part of the Eastern Region.
    \nThe terrain is undulating savanna woodland cut by seasonal streams, drier and more thinly settled than the
    \ndistricts to the south. Lake Volta lies to the east; the land falls toward it from the low ridges around
    \nAsesewa.<\/p>\n

    Its neighbours in the region include Lower Manya Krobo<\/a> to the south and Yilo Krobo<\/a> to
    \nthe south-west.<\/p>\n

    Rainfall is lower and less reliable than in the forest districts to the south, and dry spells between
    \nthe two wet seasons are common. Vegetation is mostly grass and scattered trees, and water for households and
    \nlivestock is a recurring constraint in the dry months.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    This is a farming district. Cassava, maize, yam, pepper, okra, watermelon and mango are the usual
    \ncrops, much of it rain-fed and sold unprocessed. Livestock, mainly goats and poultry, is kept in most
    \ncompounds. Asesewa holds one of the largest periodic markets in eastern Ghana; traders come from Accra,
    \nKoforidua and the Volta side to buy cassava, maize and vegetables in bulk, and market days set the rhythm of
    \nthe whole district.<\/p>\n

    Asesewa carries the district offices, the hospital and the secondary schools, and it is where residents
    \nof the outlying villages come for banking, medical care and inputs. Charcoal burning and petty trading fill the
    \ngap between harvests in many households.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Asesewa is reached by road from Odumase Krobo and Somanya, about 40 km to the south, or from
    \nKoforidua through Huhunya. The tarred road ends at Asesewa for some routes, and outlying communities are
    \nserved by rough feeder roads that are slow in the rainy season.<\/p>\n
