    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Asuogyaman occupies the south-eastern corner of the Eastern Region, along the Volta River and the
    \nsouthern arm of Lake Volta. The dam wall at Akosombo closes the river gorge here, and the Adomi Bridge
    \ncrosses the Volta just below it at Atimpoku. Land west of the river rises into the hills behind Anum and
    \nBoso; the eastern bank faces the Volta Region.<\/p>\n

    Neighbouring districts in the region include Lower Manya Krobo<\/a> and Upper Manya Krobo<\/a>
    \nto the west and north-west.<\/p>\n

    The climate follows the southern pattern of two wet seasons, a long one from March to July and a
    \nshorter one from September to November, with harmattan haze in December and January. The lake moderates
    \ntemperatures along the shore, and water level changes there set how far fishing camps sit from the road.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Three things carry the local economy: the Akosombo hydro station and the service town that grew
    \naround it, fishing on Lake Volta, and farming. Farmers grow cassava, maize, plantain, yam and vegetables,
    \nwith mangoes and citrus on the drier slopes. Lakeside communities land tilapia and catfish, and smoked fish
    \nmoves from here to markets in Accra and Ho. Boat traffic on the lake, river-front lodges and day visitors to
    \nthe dam and the Adomi Bridge support a steady visitor trade at Atimpoku and Akosombo.<\/p>\n

    Atimpoku is known to travellers for the roadside sale of abolo and one-man-thousand fried fish at the
    \nbridge approach. Akosombo carries the district’s hospital, banks and secondary schools, while smaller lakeside
    \ncommunities depend on weekly markets and boat links for supplies.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Atimpoku lies about 90 km north-east of Accra on the Accra–Ho road, which crosses the Volta at
    \nthe Adomi Bridge. Trotros and coaches run the route through Somanya and Kpong all day. Akosombo township is a
    \nshort branch road north of Atimpoku, and lake ferries and cargo boats work from Akosombo port.<\/p>\n
