    Geography<\/h2>\n

    New Juaben is small and largely urban, sitting in a basin ringed by hills at the eastern end of the Eastern Region’s forest belt. Koforidua fills most of it, with Effiduase, Jumapo, Oyoko and Asokore forming the built-up fringe and a thin belt of farmland beyond. The municipality borders
    \nAkuapim North<\/a> to the south-west, Fanteakwa<\/a> to the north-west and Yilo Krobo<\/a> to the east.<\/p>\n

    The hills around the town limit outward growth in places, so development has followed the roads towards Effiduase, Oyoko and Jumapo, and the built-up area now runs into neighbouring districts.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Koforidua works as an administrative and commercial centre. Regional offices, banks, the central hospital, Koforidua Technical University and a large secondary-school population drive much of the local economy. The Thursday market is the biggest trading day in the region and draws buyers from across Akyem and Krobo country, with the bead market a long-standing draw for visitors. Beyond the town, farmers grow cassava, plantain, maize, vegetables and some cocoa for the urban market.<\/p>\n

    Small manufacturing, printing, carpentry, tailoring and vehicle repair operate around the central business area, and the student population supports a large rental and food-selling trade. The municipal assembly, regional coordinating council and courts are all based in the town, and public sector salaries are a significant share of local income.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Koforidua lies about 85 km north of Accra, usually under two hours by the road through Nsawam, Suhum and Bunso junction. Buses and trotros run frequently from Accra, and roads link the town east to Somanya and Akosombo, north to Begoro and west to the Accra to Kumasi highway.<\/p>\n
