    Geography<\/h2>\n

    The district covers low, flat country between the Afram River and the arms of Lake Volta, north of the Kwahu scarp. Woodland savanna and farm bush replace the forest found higher up, and the wet and dry seasons are more sharply marked. Settlements are scattered and often far apart, linked by earth roads that turn heavy in the rains. It borders Kwahu North<\/a> to the north, Kwahu East<\/a> to the south and Kwahu South<\/a> to the south-west.<\/p>\n

    Tease sits inland from the lake shore, and several communities are reached only by tracks that are impassable to ordinary vehicles for weeks at a time in the wet season.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    This is farming and fishing country. Yam, maize, cassava, groundnut, cowpea and vegetables are the main crops, and the plains are among the Eastern Region’s larger yam sources. Cattle, sheep and goats are kept in numbers, and herders move stock through seasonally. Fishing on the Volta and its inlets supports smoking and trading in the lakeside villages. Produce leaves by lorry to Nkawkaw and by boat across the lake, and market days set the rhythm of the week.<\/p>\n

    Migrant farmers from other regions have settled the plains over decades and work much of the land under tenancy arrangements with local landholders. Health posts and schools are widely spaced, and Tease carries the district’s main services.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Access is by road from Nkawkaw and Donkorkrom, or by the Adawso to Ekye Amanfrom ferry across the Afram arm of Lake Volta, which carries vehicles and passengers from the Koforidua side. Journeys within the district are slow, and the ferry crossing is the quickest link to Accra and the ridge towns.<\/p>\n
