    Geography<\/h2>\n

    The district is forest country, hilly in places and cut by streams that drain toward the Offin. Settlement is dispersed: farm villages and mining camps along feeder roads rather than large towns. Upper Denkyira East<\/a> lies to the east, with Twifo Ati-Morkwa<\/a> further south. The Western Region begins along the district’s western edge.<\/p>\n

    Rain falls in two seasons, with the heaviest months between April and July, and feeder roads become difficult in that period. Forest reserves cover part of the district, and the boundary between reserve land and farmland is closely watched.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Cocoa farming and small-scale gold mining are the two mainstays, and both shape settlement patterns here. Oil palm, plantain, cassava, cocoyam and maize are grown for food and local sale. Timber is worked where reserves allow. Diaso holds the district market and the main offices; smaller villages depend on periodic markets and on traders who come in by road for cocoa at harvest.<\/p>\n

    Twi is the everyday language, and the population traces its roots to the old Denkyira state.     Diaso is reached from Dunkwa-on-Offin, which sits on the Kumasi to Takoradi road and railway, by the road running west. Most visitors travel first to Dunkwa and change there. Feeder roads off that route serve the outlying farm and mining settlements, and can be slow in the rainy season.<\/p>\n
