Atebubu-Amantin is a municipal district in the Bono East Region of Ghana. Its capital is Atebubu. The municipality had a population of 144,947 at the 2021 census, up from 105,938 in 2010.<\/p>\n

    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Atebubu-Amantin lies in the south-east of the Bono East Region. The land is flat to gently undulating savanna woodland, with grass, shea and dawadawa trees and gallery forest along the streams. Water drains east into the Volta basin, and the municipality’s eastern reaches approach the lake. The single main rainy season is longer here than in the far north of Ghana but shorter than in the forest districts to the south.<\/p>\n

    Neighbouring districts in the region include Pru<\/a> to the north, Sene<\/a> to the east and Nkoranza North<\/a> to the west.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Agriculture carries the municipality. Yam is the leading crop and Atebubu is one of the recognised yam-trading towns of central Ghana, with lorries loading tubers for Kumasi, Accra and Takoradi. Maize, cassava, groundnuts, cowpea, sorghum and cashew are also grown, and cattle, sheep and goats are kept in numbers. Communities near the lake add fishing to the mix.<\/p>\n

    Atebubu holds the municipal assembly, a college of education, the main lorry station and the largest market; Amantin is the second commercial centre. The population is mixed, with Akan-speaking hosts alongside long-settled migrant farming and herding families from northern Ghana and neighbouring countries, and Jato Zongo and similar quarters reflect that history.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Atebubu sits on the Kumasi\u2013Atebubu\u2013Yeji road, the main route from Ashanti to the Volta ferry crossing. From the regional capital Techiman, drivers reach Atebubu by way of Nkoranza or Kintampo in roughly two hours. Daily buses and shared taxis serve Atebubu from Kumasi and Techiman, and vehicles continue north-east to Prang and Yeji.<\/p>\n
