    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Atwima Kwanwoma lies immediately south-west of Kumasi and forms part of the city’s commuter belt. The land is gently rolling forest country drained by the Oda and its tributaries. Much of the northern half is built up and continues without a break into the Kumasi suburbs.<\/p>\n

    Twedie is the district capital. Neighbouring districts include Atwima Nwabiagya<\/a> to the north, Bosomtwe<\/a> to the east and Bekwai<\/a> to the south.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    The district lives off Kumasi. Many residents commute into the city to work, and land close to the boundary has gone over to housing, so building, sand winning, quarrying and rentals are significant sources of income.<\/p>\n

    Farming holds on in the southern villages, where cocoa, plantain, cassava, cocoyam, maize and vegetables are grown for the Kumasi markets. Poultry farms and piggeries are common in the peri-urban belt. Trading, transport and small workshops handling repairs and carpentry fill out the local economy.<\/p>\n

    Life here runs on Kumasi time. Asante Twi is the everyday language, and many households have one foot in the city and one in the village, farming at weekends and working in town during the week. Schools, clinics and churches in the larger communities serve a population that keeps growing with new housing.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Twedie is roughly 15 km from central Kumasi on the road towards Bekwai and Obuasi, which puts it within half an hour of the city outside peak traffic.<\/p>\n

    Trotros and shared taxis run constantly between Kumasi and the district’s towns. Ahenema Kokoben, Ampabame, Kotei and the other suburban communities are served by city routes rather than long-distance transport.<\/p>\n
