    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Ahafo Ano North lies in the north-west of the Ashanti Region, in high-rainfall forest country close to the Ahafo boundary. Tepa, the municipal capital, is the main market and administrative town, with Akwasiase, Anyinasuso and Betiako among the larger settlements. The land is a series of forested ridges and stream valleys, with forest reserve on the western fringe. It borders Ahafo Ano South<\/a> to the south, Atwima Mponua<\/a> to the south-west and Offinso North<\/a> to the north-east.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Cocoa is the leading crop, with oil palm, citrus and plantain close behind and cassava, cocoyam and maize grown for food. Timber and sawmilling have long operated here, and cocoa buying agencies keep depots in the main towns. Tepa’s market day pulls farmers and traders from across the municipality and from the Ahafo side of the boundary. Tepa also carries the government hospital serving the wider area.<\/p>\n

    Asante Twi is the everyday language, with settler farming communities from northern Ghana long established in the cocoa villages. Tepa is the service centre for the municipality: hospital, senior high schools, banks and the assembly offices are all there. The cocoa season between October and January is when cash circulates, and traders, transport owners and shopkeepers plan their year around it.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Tepa is roughly 55 km north-west of Kumasi. The direct route runs through Mankranso and Adugyama on the Kumasi–Sunyani road, then north on the Tepa road; trotros make the trip from Kumasi daily. Feeder roads to the cocoa villages are laterite and difficult in the rainy season.<\/p>\n
