    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Sekyere Central sits in the north-east of the Ashanti Region, on the ground that falls away from the Mampong scarp towards the Afram plains. The south of the district is moist semi-deciduous forest; the north dries into transitional woodland and open farmland. Nsuta and Kwamang are the two anchor towns, with Beposo and Aframso strung along the road east. It borders Sekyere East<\/a> to the south-west, Sekyere South<\/a> to the south, Mampong<\/a> to the north-west and the wide Afram country of Sekyere Afram Plains<\/a> to the east.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Farming carries the district. Cocoa and oil palm hold the wetter southern half, while maize, cassava, plantain, yam and vegetables dominate the drier north. Charcoal burning and small sawmilling follow the timber. Nsuta is the main market and administrative town, and traders from Kumasi and Mampong buy foodstuffs at the roadside markets in Kwamang and Aframso. Livestock, mostly goats, sheep and poultry, is kept at household scale rather than on ranches.<\/p>\n

    Asante Twi is the everyday language and the district falls under Asante traditional authority, so the Akwasidae cycle of the Asante calendar still shapes the local year. Nsuta carries the district hospital, the main senior high schools and the assembly offices; smaller communities depend on health centres and basic schools. Distance from the main highways keeps prices for imported goods higher here than in the districts closer to Kumasi.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Nsuta lies roughly 60 km north-east of Kumasi. The usual approach is the Kumasi–Mampong road as far as Effiduase or Kwamang, then east on the district road to Nsuta. Trotros run daily from Kumasi’s Asafo and Alabar stations; the eastern roads towards the Afram plains are laterite and slow in the rains.<\/p>\n
