    Geography<\/h2>\n

    Asante Akim South lies in the east of the Ashanti Region, on the boundary with the Eastern Region. The Asante Akim hills run through it, and the district is forest country broken by ridges and stream valleys.<\/p>\n

    Juaso, the municipal capital, stands on the Accra–Kumasi highway, and Bompata is the other main town. Neighbouring districts include Asante Akim North<\/a> to the north, Bosome Freho<\/a> to the west and Ejisu-Juaben<\/a> to the north-west.<\/p>\n

    Economy and Local Life<\/h2>\n

    Cocoa is the main cash crop, grown with plantain, cassava, cocoyam, maize and oil palm. Oil palm processing into local red oil is a common village trade, and citrus is grown for buyers from Kumasi and Accra.<\/p>\n

    Because the highway runs through the municipality, roadside trade is important. Juaso, Bompata and Obogu handle produce buying, fuel, food and transport services, and the market days pull farmers in from the surrounding villages. Timber and small-scale mining add work in parts of the district.<\/p>\n

    Asante Twi is the everyday language and the Asante Akim traditional area holds the chieftaincy, with Bompata among its senior towns. Because the highway passes through, the municipality mixes farming villages with roadside settlements that live off passing traffic.<\/p>\n

    Getting There<\/h2>\n

    Juaso sits directly on the Accra–Kumasi highway, about 70 km east of Kumasi and roughly three hours from Accra by road.<\/p>\n

    Long-distance buses passing between Accra and Kumasi stop at the highway towns. Trotros and shared taxis link Juaso with Bompata, Konongo and the interior villages.<\/p>\n
