Towns and Villages in Pawe special woreda
Pawe is one of twenty woredas in Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz Region.
Because it is not part of any Zone in Benishangul-Gumuz, it is classified as a Special woreda, which is an administrative unit equivalent to an autonomous region.
It is a model special woreda in the country because of its demographic diversity and large population mix, all while maintaining peaceful coexistence.
Metekel borders Pawe to the south and west, and the Amhara Region to the east and north. Almu is the largest town in Pawe, followed by Felege Selam and Ketema.
According to the 2007 Census performed by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this woreda has a total population of 45,552, with 23,265 males and 22,287 women. 10,068 people, or 22.1% of the total population, live in cities.
There were 11,808 households in this woreda, with an average of 3.86 people per household and 11,436 dwelling units.
The six major ethnic groups listed in the Pawe special woreda were the Amhara (69.71%), Kambaata (18%), Hadiya (14.5%), Agaw-Awi (1.05%), and Oromo (2.22%), with all other ethnic groups accounting for 0.6% of the population.
The primary languages are Amharic (71.88%), Kambaata (14.81%), Hadiya (14.44%), Awngi (1.25%), Somali (1.92%), and Oromo (1.88%).
The majority of the people practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 63.49% identifying as such, while 26.46% were Muslim, 7.61% Protestant, and 2.38% Catholic.[6]
