Towns and Villages in Kamashi Zone
Kamashi is a zone of Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz Region. It includes a portion of the southern bank of the Abay and the valley of the Didessa Rivers.
The Zone is bounded on the south and east by the Oromia Region, on the west by the Asosa and Sudan, and on the north by Metekel and the Amhara Region, which are located on the Abay’s farther bank.
The Gumuz people are the majority ethnic group in the zone, but there are also sizable Oromo and Amhara minorities.
According to the 2007 Census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this Zone has a total population of 101,543, with 52,284 males and 49,259 women. 14,894 people, or 14.67%, live in cities.
According to Central Statistical Agency figures from 2005, this zone’s total population is expected to be 67,361, with 34,150 males and 33,211 women.
Kamashi has an estimated area of 8,850.96 square kilometers and a population density of 7.61 persons per square kilometer.
