South Gondar (also known as Debub Gondar) is a Zone of Ethiopia’s Amhara Region.
This zone is called for the city of Gondar, Ethiopia’s capital until the mid-19th century, and has frequently been used as the name of the local province.
According to the 2007 Census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this Zone has a total population of 2,051,738, a 16% increase over the 1994 census, with 1,041,061 men and 1,010,677 women.
