Towns and Villages in North Wollo Zone

North Wollo, also known as Semien Wollo, is a zone in Ethiopia’s Amhara Region.

It is bordered by South Wollo to the south, South Gondar to the west, Wag Hemra to the north, Tigray Region to the northeast, and Afar Region to the east; the Mille River forms part of its southern boundary.

The highest point is Mount Abuna Yosef. Its settlements include Lasta Lalibela (famous for its rock-cut chapels) and Weldiya (also spelled Woldia). North Wollo derived its name from the old province of Wollo.

According to the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia’s (CSA) 2007 Census, this Zone has a total population of 1,500,303, a 19.04% increase over the 1994 census, with 752,895 men and 747,408 women; with an area of 12,172.50 square kilometers, North Wollo has a population density of 123.25.
