Towns and Villages in Mao-Komo special woreda
Mao-Komo is a woreda in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia.
Because it is not included in any of Benishangul-Gumuz’s zones, it is classified as a Special woreda, a type of administrative unit equivalent to an autonomous area.
Mao-Komo, the Region’s southernmost woreda, is bordered on the west by Sudan and South Sudan, north by the Asosa Zone, and east and south by the Oromia Region.
Tongo, one of the towns in this woreda, hosts a weekly market. Tongo refugee camp, which houses 12,483 displaced individuals from Sudan and South Sudan, is also in Mao-Komo.
According to the 2007 Census performed by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this woreda has a total population of 50,061, with 25,055 males and 25,006 women. 3,392 people, or 6.78% of the population, live in urban areas.
According to the Central Statistical Agency (CSA) estimates from 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 18,668, with 9,110 men and 9,558 women.
Mao-Komo has an estimated 1,792.66 square kilometers and has a population density of 10.4 persons per square kilometer, which is lower than the Zone average of 19.95.
