Name Origin
Named after Youranigh ( – ), an Aboriginal man from the Bogan? district who accompanied Sir Thomas Mitchell (1792-1855) NDSW Surveyor-General on his 1846 expedition into what is now central Queensland. L. Mitchell. Journal of an expedition into the interior of tropical Australia. London, 1848, p.25.
None of Queensland’s 322 cadastral counties, Youranigh included, has a council or administrative role today — each persists purely as a parish-grouping in land title records.
