Name Origin
Pera County takes its name from Pera Head, named by Commander Matthew Flinders RN on 8 November 1802 during his survey voyage aboard HM Sloop Investigator. Flinders named the headland after the Dutch yacht Pera, commanded by merchant-navigator Jan Carstensz on an exploration voyage from Batavia in 1623.
