Bulwer

Bulwer County is a cadastral division in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia.

Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the British Colonial Secretary who separated Queensland from New South Wales in 1859, is commemorated by the name.

Bulwer County is bounded to the north by the Condamine River, to the east by the Logan River, and to the south by the Brisbane River.

It has a land area of about 2,000 square kilometres (770 square miles).

Beaudesert, Boonah, and Jimboomba are the main towns in Bulwer County. Aratula, Esk, Laidley, and Logan Village are among the smaller towns and villages in the county.

History of Bulwer County

The Aboriginal people of the Yugambeh and Jagera tribes were the first to settle in Bulwer County. They lived in the area for thousands of years before European settlers arrived.

John Oxley was the first European to explore Bulwer County in 1824. The Condamine River was named after the British War Secretary, the Marquess Wellesley.

Bulwer County’s first European settlers arrived in the early 1840s. They were drawn to the region because of its fertile soil and plentiful water resources.

Beaudesert was the first town established in Bulwer County in 1842. Soon after, Boonah and Jimboomba arrived.

Bulwer County’s population grew rapidly in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This was due to the agricultural industry’s expansion and the construction of the railway line from Brisbane to Beaudesert.
